Nishad, a Keralite, is making history as the first Indian train captain for Etihad Rail's passenger service in the UAE. This achievement is particularly noteworthy, as it highlights the potential for individuals from diverse backgrounds to excel in high-profile roles. However, Nishad's journey to this point has been anything but straightforward, serving as a testament to the power of perseverance and hard work. When he first moved to the UAE in 2014, Nishad, like many expatriates, had to start from scratch, taking on odd jobs to make ends meet. He worked as a cashier, sold perfumes, prepared hot dog sandwiches, and even handled delivery jobs, all while pursuing his dream of a career in the rail sector. His big break came when he landed his first railway job with the Palm Jumeirah Monorail in 2017, which marked the beginning of a career that would eventually see him working with the Dubai Tram, Dubai Metro, and Zayed International Airport. Despite this success, Nishad's dream almost came to an end in 2020 when he applied for a position with Etihad Rail but was disqualified due to a minor error in his email address. However, he did not give up, and his perseverance paid off when he successfully reapplied in 2022 and secured his place as a train captain. The Etihad Rail passenger trains, which will operate at speeds of up to 200 km/h, are expected to serve around 10 million passengers annually once fully operational. The trains will feature assigned seating, complimentary Wi-Fi, charging points, fold-out tables, luggage storage, extra legroom, and a capacity of up to 400 passengers. The introduction of these high-speed trains will significantly reduce travel time between Fujairah and Abu Dhabi to just one hour and 45 minutes. This development is a significant milestone for the UAE, as it marks the beginning of a new era in rail transportation, and it is a testament to the country's commitment to innovation and progress. In my opinion, the story of Nishad is a powerful reminder that with hard work and perseverance, anyone can achieve their dreams, regardless of their background or circumstances. It also highlights the importance of diversity and inclusion in the workplace, as it is through these values that we can create a more equitable and innovative society. From my perspective, the success of Nishad and the Etihad Rail project is a significant step forward for the UAE, and it is a development that should be celebrated by all.
